I'm a nationally registered Art Therapist and currently working on completing my Doctorate of Art Therapy at Mount Mary University.
Art therapy is something I believe so strongly in and clearly something I'm passionate about. I am always amazed and appreciate how individuals simply using different art materials to express and communicate themselves non-verbally can facilitate working through issues, problems and concerns in such an incredible way. This is due to Art Therapy having an ability and advantage of by-passing the sometimes highly defended process of language and therefore facilitating a very honest and introspective experience for individuals.
I have experience working with children, youth and adults and feel honoured to be able to introduce people to the newer world of Art Therapy! Something I really want people to know about my practice is that you really don't need to have any previous experience or expertise in art to participate in Art Therapy.
In terms of how I work, I come from a humanistic, phenomenological approach with an emphasis on self-actualization through creative expression. The areas that I have the most experience in are trauma, grief and loss.
Moving towards the future, I have a lot of interest in exploring the links between neuroscience and Art Therapy and also on providing team building, supervision and conflict resolution to organizations and the local community.
When I leave the office for the day and I'm not busy being a student, you might see me zip by on the road as I continue to master my motorcycle skills.
